Deanne Fortnamis one of my favorite container gardeners . Her exuberant mode and keen mother wit for color result in some of the most arresting container designs I ’ve ever regard . She even wrote an article on one - vividness combos for container for the December 2010 issue ofFine horticulture – be certain to check it out . But Deanne does plentifulness of garden in the undercoat , too . Here is one of her amazing mailbox displays . I expect her to tell us about it , and here ’s what she said :

“ There has been a garden of one form or another surrounding our mailbox for the last thirty year . It has grown from a few petunias and marigold in the early 1980 ’s to the sundry planting seen in last summer ’s simulacrum . The beautiful ‘ Morning Light ’ miscanthus ( Miscanthus sinensis‘Morning Light ’ , USDA Hardiness Zones 4 - 9 )   anchors and provides height and grain to the layer in all seasons .   The ‘ Mrs. Bateman ’ clematis ( Clematis‘Mrs . Bateman ’ , zone 4 - 11 )   makes a beautiful spattering before in the time of year when the dinnerplate dahlias and motley annual are just getting depart . The ‘ Billy Greene ’ fuchsia ( Fuchsia‘Billy Greene ’ , Zones 9 - 11 )   and ‘ shameful and Blue ’ salvia ( Salvia guaranitica‘Black and downhearted ’ , zone 7 - 10 ) ,   as well as all the dahlia , are dig up and put in indoors for the winter . Last summer I grew the beautiful variegated SunPatiens ( ImpatiensSunpatiens series , annual ) and I am plan to use them again in the do season . They performed attractively all season in this full sunlight location . ”
