I ’ve always had a soft spot for using vintage slice and antiques in my garden . Even before I had my own garden , icon of upcycled vintage garden interior decoration would speak to me ! I think it ’s the joyousness of take that vintage item and pairing it with brilliantly colored prime that keeps me doing it . Visiting flea markets , estate sales , antique shops , thrift computer memory , and yard sale looking for vintage finds that I can add to my gardens , has become a side hobby . And , I ’m worked up to show you some of my vintage treasures !

So what is upcycled vintage garden interior decoration ? It ’s taking vintage pieces , not originally intended for use in the garden , and bringing new lifetime into them ! And then summate those unique piece to your garden and out-of-door spaces . It ’s not just about sustainable living . It ’s about creating a space that is full of personality , beauty , memories , and a space that you love !

I pull in this type of garden interior decoration is n’t for everyone . I believe there ’s a o.k. line between adding some whimsy and making things look junkie . In my garden , I draw the cable at using sure bathroom pieces ( Ahem ) or car piece . Haha ! I DO admit to an extreme love for vintage legged bathing tub ! Decades ago , Randy and I hoisted one into the screened in porch our wharfage and beam home . I grew ferns , begonias … all kinds of things ! It was astonishing ! Eventually we move it to the backyard and discovered it was the ultimate DoD against Bermuda grass ! It provide a fast raised seam that defied that grass from the “ bad situation ! ” Really though , everyone has their own fashion and as long as it admit flowers , I love it ! Creating these fun little vignettes brings out my creative side and I like to see what I can come up with and how I can use the same patch in different mode from year to twelvemonth .

The Best Vintage Garden Decor Ideas

I have mass of idea both from my gardens and from other gardens that I ’ve chitchat , so let ’s dive right in .

Up first is this sweet group feature a replica of a vintage iron gate . I looked and looked for a real vintage gate like this one , but the cost were idiotic , so I settled for a replica and it ’s a large increase to my gardens . My daughter and I made the sign from an old piece of cedar fencing material . The milk can and the galvanized watering can were flea market finds . I usually pick up caning baskets for use in my gardens at thrift storage .

Use Old Chairs in the Garden (even if they are broken)

An old electric chair with a potbelly of blossom sitting on it create a wizardly focal stop in a garden . I purchased this old chair several years ago from an passe store . The salesperson was so shocked that I want it even though it did n’t have a backside ! I could have fashioned a planter into the seat where the caning was missing , but I never did . I mean I paid two or three dollar for it .

It had a place in my gardens for several years until it ultimately fall asunder . I even gave it a paint job to extend its life story . Of course , wood chair will not last forever in outdoor component , but they will last several age .

The plant in the galvanized container admit caladium , impatiens and crawl jenny . The plants around the bottom of the chair include ; Ivory Halo Dogwood , Coleus , Pulmonaria ( lungwort ) and foxglove ( I wish they were blooming , perhaps next twelvemonth . )

Just a side tip : The Creeping Jenny plant is a perennial . In the north , it can be dug out of planter and plant in the ground in the dusk . Then just dig some up in the spring and put it back in your planter . In the south , I have successfully overwintered it in the mess it had been in all along .

And because I have it away it so much , here is the same professorship in my gardens another class . I add a cunning sign and some faux birdhouse stake from my decor collection to create a cute show .

Old Ladders in the Garden

This old run is another one of my favourite upcycled vintage garden interior decoration pieces ! It came from an demesne sale several years ago and I have used it in my garden every summertime . Wicker basket can always be picked up tattily at service department sales and penny-pinching shops , and they makethe good repurposed planter . I just title the ladder with small plants and small thrifted items that I have in my stash . This picayune footstep ladder used to be my Dad ’s and I love using it on my bantam front porch to add some welcoming magic spell . My auntie always used old coffee berry jackpot and saucepans to grow flock plants and cuttings and I love doing the same matter as a reminder of them !

Antique milk lav are readily available at flea markets and I ’ve had this one for several years . It was pretty ugly when I wreak it home , but I knew I could fix it with a can of spray paint . I rule a place for it in my garden every year .

The old , blue milk can is puzzle chippy , but that just adds to its theatrical role . In the photo below , it holds a pot of lantana .

Old Bikes Can Add So Much Charm to a Flower Garden

Old wheel make such a statement in a flower garden and are a great way to add some magic spell . This sweet ride was found on Craigslist . The lady I purchased it from thought I was going to ride it , so she told me where I could get the tires aired up . Little did she know … I dreamed about this very vignette ever since we moved to this house and I was so well-chosen the year I was finally able to make it happen .

It ’s so cute I can hardly stand up it . Every year it leans up against this tree diagram , just as I imagined . Below the bike is back again a few years later with the perennial satisfy in nicely .

woefully , the old tree was sick and had to come up down , but I recover a new smirch for my sweet bike up against the fencing . Our resident physician squirrels cerebrate it would be a good approximation to eat the tail off of the bicycle . lawful fib !

While I ’m on the topic of old time of origin washtubs , my neighbor is letting me apportion her washtub hanging on a shepherd ’s hook . I love it and someday I want to try doing this with an older washtub .

Wheelbarrows as Garden Planters

Wheelbarrows piddle the best rustic planters . Just be sure to lend some drainage holes if yours does n’t already have them . Plants just go crazy in them . This wheelbarrow is full of flame nettle , impatiens , vinca vine , a fern ) , a begonia and caladium . They also make cute fag gardens !
