The Horticultural Trades Association ( HTA ) , which represent the entire environmental gardening and gardening industriousness across the UK , has given a stark warning to the government that their border significance policy , which is about to come in into effect , risks the future of industrial plant business deal in the UK .
There are just nine week until the 30 April Border Target Operating Model ( BTOM ) changes . From this date , the UK will see gamey - peril plant checks move to Border Control Posts ( BCPs ) .
HTA Chairman James Barnes points to a multitude of problem for the tree and plant life trade with the government activity BTOM proposal : " The consequences present a dramatic jeopardy to the width of UK horticulture businesses ( the majority of which are SMEs ) , jobs , biosecurity , environmental target rescue , and the selection useable to and pouch of the UK ’s 30 million gardener . The HTA has call for the Secretary of State to act urgently to :
A practicable border model is of the essence to over 90 % of the UK ’s tree diagram and plant growers that import plant products for cognitive operation and propagation purposes .
