The Days of the Dead Festival
The British Museum are putting on a three day Mexican Days of the Dead Festival from 30th October until the 2nd November .
There will be music , art and storey telling . There will also be a huge paint selfie wall where you may take pic of yourselves and your kinsperson . It measures 3 metres by 3 metres . It has been printed from this moving picture painted by our lovely Beatrice .
If you should be at the British Museum over the weekend please go and see it . The annual fete in Mexico dates back over 3000 years . family go to visit the dead and celebrate the cycle of biography and end . They bring decorated sugar skulls , marigold and the favourite food and drink of their idle .Dias de los Muertoscoincides with the Catholic All Saints Day , but it predates it and in Mexico is meld with ancestor veneration . People build altars in their homes but on 31st October they keep their dead company in the graveyard . They consider that the souls of dead children are allowed back for this one dark to be with their families . On 2nd November they are link up by the souls of bushed adults . This belief that the dead yield to their families on one night of the year is an ancient one and you incur it in many cultures round off the world . The Pagan Festival of Samhain celebrated by the Celts is very standardized . The idea of remembering and having a company with your stagnant ancestors is rather lovely . Much nicer than john or treating and dressing up in parentage curdle outfits .

But Beatrice does spooky too . Here is the Halloween backdrop she painted . I do n’t know who the scary dame is . A ghostwriter perhaps . Or maybe a lamia . Is that a dead crowing nestling amongst the flowers on her lid ? I would n’t be surprised .
You may remember Beatrice and Bertie , as I write about theirjetty gardenearlier this year .
Congratulations dear Beatrice on the commission for the British Museum .

I do n’t have any painted sugar skulls , but I do have a vase of marigolds which are the flush the Mexicans like to use for the Day of the Dead Festival .

Beatrice is unbelievably talented ! Wow ! Believe it or not , I still have marigold blooming in my garden . Usually , they ’d be numb by mid - October . That El Nino is treating us well , here in the middle of North America . Enjoy the celebrations !
How marvelous for Beatrice to have her workplace pick out by the British museum , she is one gifted lady ! I do n’t like all the hype about Halloween , but do celebrate All Souls Day and All Saints Day , much nicer !
