With Fall planting right around the corner, it was time to re-cover my raised bed “defense system”.
Back in October 2009 I wrote a post on a manner to protect the veggies you had in raise bottom ( here ’s the link ) . What started as an experiment was successful enough to implement on one-half of my raised beds . To rephrase myself , “ The musical theme is bare . If blighter ca n’t pass on the leaves of your plants , they ca n’t bring down damage to them or encourage disease . This isbeyond organicpest dominance , as no chemical or spray are used at all . ”
The following can serve as a step - by - step how - to on apply ( I have in mind re - put on ) the fabric , but for right statement and supplies needed , refer to theoriginal clause .
1 . First I removed the old framework . On all of the pest covert frames that served their duty in the Spring , the fabric was damaged by wear and tear , weather condition , and a critter of some variety that had trampled or gotten get in it . I also removed much of the quondam stirrup from the wood . They were just vex in the forest and in the style .

2 . The fabric for the first two bed was already purchased . Rather than the white lace / screen door type cloth I used in the Spring , I decide to use a black screen cloth . It looked similar to the white lacing , but had slimly wide satisfying openings ( about an 8th of an inch ) . For the third bed , I ’m going with the old bed sheet again , only this sentence it ’s not blanched , but a fade folio light-green color . The colour was n’t really important , but the thickness of the fabric was . I will be planting lettuce in this layer , so the fabric is doing dual responsibility – keeping gadfly out and limiting the amount of sunlight that get through . The lettuce will profit from the slightly shaded environment .
3 . Applying the new material was pretty aboveboard . Using my trusty and powerful electric staple gun , I first anchored the fabric travel over the top and sides of the wood frame . BTW , that reminds me of a tip / hint the helpful lady at the fabric store gave me . Rather than cut out separate pieces for the topANDsides of the frame , have them cut you a piece that ’s long enough to cover both the topandsides . Makes sense to me , and pull through both of us some cutting time . Trim off the excess material , but pull up stakes 2 - 4 inch of intersection . You ’ll beveryglad you did if there is a tear near or at the woodwind frame edge .
4 . After the top and sides are stapled on , you then staple on the other two sides that could n’t be cover by the first long piece of music . Same practice session , pull it tight , staple away , and trim the excess .

5 . at last , pen up over and staple together the cloth that meets at the four corners of the wood form . With this , the pest screening is completely seal off and ready for service .
I call for the sheet and mattress cover .
Looking back at the first pest cover charge clause , I failed to mention a really cool reward of using the lace / cover type cloth … you could spray water system through it ! ! Yep , my friends it ’s true – no pauperization to cabbage the pest cover upeverytime you need to water . Just aim your hosepipe nozzle as though nothing was there and off you go .
