Many home gardener take basic beekeeping skills in an attempt to avail the aboriginal bee population and glean the benefits of pollenation and honey . In previous give to early summer , beehive superintendent fill with honey and are ready for collection . To avoid hurting the bees or getting stung , it is best to get as many bee as possible out of the super . A bee safety valve – a maze that lets bees exit the hive without reentering – can brighten the super in about 24 hours .
Things Needed
Step 1
trim a part of plywood with a handsaw so the dimension equal the width and length of your bee super . Saw a 2 - inch diameter hole through the marrow of the plywood plank , using a keyhole power saw .
Step 2
regard the four 1 by 4 pine pieces to make 2 - column inch full edges for the plywood board . Two boards should equal the duration of the plywood board minus 2 inches , and the other two boards should rival the breadth of the plyboard board minus 2 inch .
Step 3
Place the four 1 by 4 column inch pine pieces around the border of the plyboard board to make a border . Drill starter holes in the edging at 3 - in intervals and screw the edging in place with wood prison guard .
Step 4
lay the remaining six true pine boards on a flat surface with the minute side front up . Saw both ends of each circuit card at a 45 degree slant , using a hand saw and protractor .
Step 5
Take the three shorter boards and arrange them into an equilateral Triangulum around the jam in your plywood panel , on the same side of the dining table as the edging . Leave 1/2 inch of distance between the boards at each of the three angle to give enough space for bees to grovel through . Attach the boards in place with forest gum or staples .
Step 6
Take the longer boards and arrange them into an equilateral triangle around the first triangle you made . As with the first trilateral , leave a 1/2 column inch gap between the boards at each slant . Glue or jazz the tumid triangle in place around the first triangle to make a homocentric trilateral arrangement . Leave about 1/2 in of space between the two triangles . You have now created a bee " labyrinth " around the exit hole .
Step 7
Cut a trigon of meshwork large enough to cover the snarl using wire cutters . Staple the window screen door to the top edges of the outer triangle to hold it in stead .
Step 8
Slide the bee escape under your honey super , triangle - side down .
