Warming Spiced Chai
There is nothing better to warm up your bones on a cold winter day than a hot cup of Camellia sinensis . Make that cup of tea a delicious spicy chai , and all your cares will melt away .
Did you know that chai literally means Camellia sinensis ?
That think saying chai tea is redundant and unnecessary ! Just simply call it chai .

The fragrant and warming spices that make up a cup of chai are so comforting and tasty , and the smell in your firm while wee it is no less than awesome !
I do n’t know about you , but I ’m usually a little act disappointed with the chai from coffee shops , as they are often way to sweet and not spicy enough .
On the rarified occasion that I ’ve actually liked the chai that I ’ve order , it ’s usually made in household and is only the slight bit sweet .

It did n’t take me long to cipher out that I could make spiced chai myself at home with minimal effort , and exactly the way I like it .
I should cite that this is in no means a traditional chai . This is simply my own homemade version of coffee shop chai that is less sweet and more spicy .

How to Make Spicy Chai

Here is my own personal favorite homemade spicy chai recipe !
This homemade chai is very easy to make once you have all of the spicery and the tea . Useblack teafor a caffeinated version orrooibos teafor caffeine - free .

Spices for Chai
There are many dissimilar combinations of spicery that can be used to make chai and they can all be purchased atMountain Rose Herbs , my favourite place for constitutive dried herbs .
The traditional chai flavor mostly come from cardamom pods , so be sure to include them in the mixture . Here is a tilt of spice that are usually used :
You do n’t require to use all of the spice listed , and the amounts of each spiciness are adjustable as you see fit for your own tastes .

I ’ll intromit that I care my chai very spicy , so if you prefer a milder flavour you may need to expend a minor amount of spice .
Boil the Herbs for Chai
First slice up up the ginger and Curcuma domestica , then lend all of the spices to a tummy with approximately 8 cups ( 2 dry quart ) water supply .
Bring the spices to a boil , then turn down to a nice simmer for about 30 minutes or so .
This is when your house will sense amazing . I recollect making this spicy chai formula also acts as a great aromatherapy session !

Strain the spices out of the chai . I commonly do this into another potty .
If you ’d like , you could put the whole chai spices back into the original mass , cover with water , and boil again to get a 2nd mountain . It will be less strong , but I just ruffle it back in with the first raft for an even balance .
tote up a couple of spoonfuls of black tea or rooibos tea to the strained hot herbal chai motley , and let that model for about 5 minutes . you could also use tea bags if you do n’t have loose leaf tea .

Then separate out the tea leaves ( or remove the tea bags ) and fuddle up ! you may even reuse the teatime leaf ( or bags ) for the 2d reboiled batch of spices .
Whatever chai I ’m exit with that I ’m not perish to salute now , I store in mason jars in the fridge for up to three daytime .
It ’s easy to just mildly heat it up for a red-hot cup anytime , or if it ’s summer I often drink it cold over ice .

I wish my chai straight up and unsweetened , but please experience barren to add a piddling sugar or honey , and Milk River or pick of your selection in ordination to make a more traditional chai beverage . Make it yours !
