Delicate flowers and dark foliage make for a delicious combination in this historic neighborhood
Hello GPODers !
A couple weeks back , Quaker - of - the - blog Cherry Ong bring us along on a recent trip toMontreal Botanical Garden , particularly to their serene Chinese Garden ( if you missed it , be sure to check out those berth here : Part 1andPart 2 ) . However , when Cherry travels there is never just one garden on the route and no sidewalk planting ever gets passed by without her attention . So it was no surprisal when , concisely after her botanical garden submission , Cherry sent along even more photos from her travel in the beautiful Gallic - Canadian urban center . Today , we get to enjoy some colored combination that she encounter while touring the historical neighborhood ofOld Montreal .
This historic site along my personal walking tour of Old Montreal boasts of beautiful plant combination which I think everyone would enjoy . I so enjoy dark foliage and this summer corridor is gorgeous !

I have to say Old and Downtown Montreal had so many gorgeous plantings to relish . This is like a cherry on top for all the productive civilisation , celebrated architecture and luscious solid food .
Thank you and have a bully week !

A enceinte index for whether I think a city is worth revisit is the space apportion for plant arrangements and greenery . Whether it ’s easy access to lot of succulent public parks or hanging field goal perched from light - post in the main stretching of downtown , the power to get my daily dose of plants is a must anywhere I move to often . Cities that have lots of gravid , colorful planters , like this one Cherry captured , lean to be high on my list of places to revisit .
Many such agreement , however , tend to be either a crazy assortment of promising - colored flowers or a simple massing of a yoke plants . These arrangements are a not - as - common combination of delicate flowers and dark foliage . In the foreground , Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Jet Black ™ sweet potato vine ( Ipomoeabatatas‘NCORNSP-021SHJB’,Zones 9–11 or as an yearly ) is a thoroughgoing , purple - toned compliment to Rockin ’ ® Fuchsia salvia ( Salviahybrid‘BBSAL00301’,Zones 9–11 or as an yearly ) . Both contrast so nicely with the cool - toned ‘ Silver Falls ’ dichondra ( Dichondraargentea‘Silver Falls’,annual ) and Blushing Princess ® sweet alyssum ( Lobularia hybrid‘Blushing Princess’,Zones 9–11 or as an one-year ) in the scope .
Purple and red are a color combining that can go wrong very quickly , but can also be anything from cool and moody to sport and vivacious when done correctly . Here , the mysterious purple mellisonant potato vine looks divine next to the burgundy - red ‘ Dark Chocolate ’ coleus ( Solenostemonscutellarioides‘Dark Chocolate’,annual ) .

I also value that the colour palette in this transcription is pretty but subdued . Do n’t get me wrong , I every bit adore a rainbow of annual flowers , but there is something so advanced in the designed extract of specific coloring . To bring some more flowers to this combination without competing with the standout salvia , ‘ So White ’ gaura ( Gaura lindheimeri‘So White’,Zones 5–9 ) was a mythic selection .
One last vista of that sensational fresh potato vine !
We ’re not done with Cherry ’s Montreal adventures just yet . Tomorrow we ’re visiting a garden Cherry happen upon in 2019 , and made a point to explore in its entirety this year .
