The last time we heard from Cheryl Weeks - Rosten , she shared Dahlia Hill in Midland , Michigan with us ( refresh your memoryHERE . ) Today she ’s shring another treat – exposure she ’s taken of garden color during her visit to Guatemala .
Cheryl says,“I body of work with Mayan teacher in the highlands of Guatemala several prison term a year , and as a gardener , I now associate sure plants with this key American nation that ’s just below Mexico . It ’s advertised as the “ land of unending Spring ” so the plant that boom in 70 point weather are common , although it ’s colder in the mountains .
“ The indigenous people are concenter on raise clavus and coffee , but in the major metropolis , astounding color can be ground in inner courtyard garden of private homes and hotel . Leatherleaf , bougainvillea , acanthus , and both canna and calla lily produce in abundance and are sell by the armfuls to decorate home and churches . One such market is on the steps of the cathedral in Chichicastenango . In the old days , such plants were the author of dye for the beautiful hand woven textilles still worn by the women . ”
