Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day 15th March

‘ The   Flowers that bloom in the saltation tra la la … ’ as Nanki Poo sang in The Mikado . I ca n’t sing it to you ( luckily for you , ) but I can show you . This is the first spring bloom day and with such an early fountain we have   an ‘ embarras de choix ‘ of flowers to choose from .   get ’s start with some trees .

The one tree I could not be without isPrunus x subhirtella‘Autumnalis rosea ’ . The dainty flowers are with us throughout the winter unless we get a really cold spell . Now in March it is give its last fanfare . The Nipponese apricot tree : Prunus mumeis a adorable dark pink and flowers in February . It is a delight but it does not last long and it is already starting to go over . The little icteric clusters of flowers of the treeCornus masflower in February too . I grow the motley one which looks good in summer too .   It has eatable berries in later summer .

The wizard performers amongst the shrubs are the Daphnes . I mentioned   ‘ Jacqueline Postill ’   in an earlier post . She is one of my favourite winter unfolding plant . She is still going strong . She is now joined by the lower growingDaphne odora‘Areomarginata ’ This one is just as fragrant but bloom a little later .   The   rarefied winter floweringLonicera‘Elisae ’ has flower rather like those ofLonicera fragrantissimabut they are much larger . This is a really lovely plant .

Yellow Clivia

This twelvemonth we spent most of February in the South of France to turn tail the English wintertime and inadvertently we found we were missing the English spring as well . I missed watching all my saltation treasures follow out but it was a joy to come home last weekend and find   endearing , cheery weather and so many things in bloom . The garden is full of birdsong and Peacock , Brimstone and Tortoiseshell butterflies . It is absolute bliss . Here are a few of my lovely primroses .

These are positively the last hellebores and snowdrops I will show you this year . The snowdrop is the late floweringGalanthus plicatuswhich is at its best now .

What a wealth of beautiful affair . Lonicera ‘ Elisae ’ does look beautiful . I will have to confirm whether we can maturate it . I always find it strange that Rip Van Winkle narcissus is an old form . From the looking at of it you would think it must be a new cross .

Wow ! You have so much anthesis . I ’ve heard well thing about Daphne bohlua , I play it reek wonderful .

You have a great diversity of bloom . I am very jealous as my garden is still mostly brown . But give is coming . Hope is alive .

What a joy to see so many colourful flush ! Do n’t apologise for showing more of your hellebores or snowdrop – they are a treat for my wintertime - weary eyes . Love that freckle hellebore specially . Spending a calendar month in the South of France sounds heavenly , but I can see why you would want to get back home – there are so many delights in your own back yard !

Everything is so endearing ! I can hardly waitress for daffodils here ( I ’m in the U.S.–Eastern Washington country . ) I always miss my garden when I go on holiday , too . Happy Bloom Day !

bounce has certainly found its way to your doorway ! I do n’t know what I envy more – the hellebores , the tulips , or the daphne . I divided and transplanted yellow Clivia from my erstwhile house to my fresh one and have yet to see a single bloom . ( I ’m pouting in case you could n’t already tell … )

Oh Chloris what an absolute treasure trove to return home to ! Your position has prompt me of a sad loss in my garden – primula vulgaris ‘ Quaker ’s Bonnet ’ . Himself is to find fault . Must seek out a transposition . Jacqueline Postill does takes from cut – a friend gave me one a match of years ago . Now can you think what I ’m going to be singing today !

Your many blooms bring us cold-blooded - climate gardeners ocular relief from our foresighted , cold wintertime . Thanks !
