August highlights
We ’re in Malvern , Pennsylvania , today , chat with Carla Z. Mudry . She ’s reflecting on the tail end of summertime in her garden .
The summer has wing by ! It has been a mad summer , full of battering thunderstorms that have caused flooding , and in between those storm , heat , humidness , and sometimes drought conditions . Yet the garden make it and thrives . I have a level garden , and right now it ’s a hobo camp , so it will necessitate some trimming up and tidying shortly . Meanwhile , I ’m perturb by the efflorescence of August , like the dinner plate hibiscus(Hibiscusmoscheutoshybrids , Zones 5–9 ) , cannas(Cannahybrids , Zones 7–10 or as lovesome medulla ) , black - eyed Susans(Rudbeckiafulgida , Zones 4–9 ) , androsesreturning . The butterflies are enjoy the New York ironweed(Vernonia noveboracensis , Zones 5–8 ) and seven - son flower(Heptacodiummiconioides , Zone 5 – 9 ) . I want to remind myself this workweek of the simple delight of the garden . There is nothing quite like it . glad horticulture !
Everything here in Carla ’s garden looks lush and green . Carla says the weather has been rough , but I see no mansion of it here !

A garden - artwork mosquito hawk hovers over salvia ( Salviaofficinalis , Zones 5–8 ) .
Reblooming blush wine make full the late summer garden with mantrap andfragrance .
The prime ofpanicle hydrangeas(Hydrangeapaniculata , Zones 3–8 ) are snowy when they first open up , then they gradually age to a robust red ink . They ’re beautiful at every stage .

Different cultivar of panicle hydrangea blooms ripen at different rates and are more or less prone to turn over ruddy , so some will hold longer in the white microscope stage than others .
Luxuriating in the sheltered heat of the greenhouse , these hugepepper plantsare loaded down with yield .
Containershighlight some special works in theshade garden .

fictive sunflower ( Helopsishelianthoides , Zones 3–9 ) ordinarily has yellow flowers , but this appear like the newer pick ‘ Bleeding nub ’ , which has wonderful orange - bronze blooms and darker foliage .
We ’ll be back to enjoy more highlighting from Carla ’s garden tomorrow .
