" If you claim to be innovative , you ca n’t really do without an R&D department . Now , we had a Development section for years , but inquiry was a bit of an underdog there as far as I was come to . I missed a mo of research and a bit of initiative , and we are now endeavor to put a scrap more accent on that . "

We spoke to Peter van Keulen , operations manager at Modiform . He himself has quite a course record at the companionship , having been plant manager at the production land site in Roosendaal for a long time and responsible for for purchase raw material in late years . Since he donned this new cap last year , he like to take the enterprisingness .

" One of the thing we recently implemented is a 3D printer , " Peter say . " The big reward of that is that you could show something straightaway . What is draw in the good afternoon run low into the printer in the eve , and the next morning , you have a ware . If the customer then wants to modify it more or less , we have the modified version the next day . You need to be capable to see and feel it , and a physical copy is then a valuable addition to a drawing . "

Not yet carry out , but luxuriously on the priority list is a separate thermoforming machine purely for testing . " We have several labs where we can test material and products , but a trial run , which is fundamentally a steady part of our process , has to be schedule individually . But , I think that machines should always be available so that new idea can be try out much faster . "

TransitionThen there are several other exploitation , which are taking place more or less simultaneously and , you could say , have put the party into a kind of changeover stage . A few years ago , for instance , Thomsen ( in Wormhout , France ) link Modiform , a manufacturer that apply injectant molding technology rather than what Modiform originally does , namely thermoforming . However , the knowledge and innovation in both arena should be merged in the revamped division . The same goes for the ' ecoExpert ' branch , or that part of Modiform that dish out with to the full naturally biodegradable cardboard publicity ( although then again , everything to do with ' pulp ' must be explicitly separated from the credit card ) . And something else entirely : as we speak , the intact R&D archive is being digitalise , making 10 of amass cognition accessible .

New momentumAre there any new things to let out ? Of course , if only because there are always new questions coming from the market and because the smallest adjustments often have implications in all possible orbit - materials , machines , cognitive process , etc . - have implications . There are also developments that transcend the companionship itself , such as new materials , new requirements , and changing laws and regulations .

" Our R&D section is , in a way , the incubator of our company . You ca n’t just do anything , every question or challenge you require to tackle badly every time to accomplish the best result . By revitalise this section and position new DOE into it , we trust to proceed deliver on this in the time to come . "
