Want a pretty boxwood hedge but don’t want to spend a lot of money?  I hear you.  The answer is to take boxwood cuttings and root them. I share how to propagate boxwood plants and how easy it really is!

Propagating Turkish boxwood with newspaper clipping is super well-off but it does take a number of clock time .   It may take a good three years or more before you get Turkish boxwood plants to grow tumid enough to form a hedge in your garden but the price savings is material .

Yet , I find I am craving a moment more order . I feel I can reach that with some fleeceable structure that will hold through wintertime , providing involvement when nothing is in blossom .   I am not going for rigid , straight lines , so no worries on that score .

I love box ( Buxus ) and how versatile it can be .   Many varieties , like Winter Gem , keep their greenish color through the wintertime and can be shaped into topiary .

Not only does a box hedgerow make for a touch of order to the garden without being too fussy , but it has the added welfare of being cervid - resistant .

Planting enough boxwood can get expensive very quickly if you require enough to make a nice hedge . So what is a budget - minded nurseryman to do ?

Take cuttings from an exist Turkish boxwood and circularize a ton of them .

Note : habituate only Turkish boxwood that are no longer patent .   Also , expend box cultivars that do n’t have the nasty cat weewee scent .   ( those are usually English boxwood that reek )

When to Take Boxwood Cuttings

A good clock time to begin Turkish boxwood press clipping is when you trim your boxwood bush in Spring .   You will have twelve ( if not more ) cut to use from your trimming .   ( many also cut back again in belated Summer , typically mid - Sept )

I create a fresh spot for roots by nip / stripping the leaves off . This opens the stem a bit so I figure that is why I do n’t have trouble with using pruners in lieu of a crisp knife to take cutting .

filch the leaves off prevents too much damage to the fore as pulling them can strip a bit too much from the Earth’s surface of the cut . I am not always that measured and have not had issues yet but recollect you might like to know that .
