Hard gardening work pays off

Today we ’re chitchat with Rebecca Downie .

This is my second submission to the GPOD . I had garden photos from our old house featured in “ The Element of Surprise”several years ago . We ’ve now been show in a fresh abode in Southington , Connecticut , for almost seven years . Not a single plant survive when we moved in , as this was a raw neck of the woods , and it has been slow but fun to give landscaping and garden ! Always a work in progress , of course .

These are the ‘ Pinky Winky ’ hydrangeas(Hydrangeapaniculata‘Pinky Winky ’ , Zones 3–8 ) near my front dance step , with a muckle ofzinnias(Zinnia elegans , annual ) andgeranium(Pelargoniumhybrid , annual ) in front .

This is my preferred garden photo , with globe thistle(Echinopsritro , Zones 3–8 ) just come out , a daisy that my aunty give me , andyarrow(Achilleahybrid , Zones 3–9 ) behind it .

This hyssop(Agastache , Zones 5–9 ) variety is‘Sunset’and is later flowering but very long lasting . I have dissimilar salmagundi of hyssop , and they are such hummingbird attractors that I see hummingbirds every sentence I look out the window , dozens of times a Clarence Shepard Day Jr. , in the summer .

I love clean , definedgarden edgesbecause it gives some order to the garden when the plants get mussy looking between season . I planned this garden to accost the gradient difference between two lawn areas .

round-eyed combination that the bees and butterflies love—‘Tiny Tuff Stuff ’ hydrangea(Hydrangea serrata‘Tiny Tuff Stuff ’ , Zones 5–9 ) , echinacea(Echinaceapurpurea , Zones 3–9 ) , daisies , butterfly stroke bush .

More of the same !

On one especially good year , I understand 22 milkweed butterfly butterflies at once on the butterfly bush(Buddleia davidii , Zones 5–9 ) . It diverge so much year to year .

I like to have most of myannualsin planters for a cheerful look when perennial are between salad days .

Around the side and front , I use mostly whitened roses and these beautiful whitepeonies , and because the peonies do n’t flower long and they ’re so bountiful , they ’re fun to make arrangements with to giving .

A mama bear and rookie in our woods .
