A little native, a little not + Wildflower Center Gardens on Tour
Look what the Easter bunny girl brought !
According toScott Ogden’sbook , Southern Bulbs for the South , this could beZephyranthes drummondii(formerlyCooperia pedunculata ) . I ’ve planted many rainfall lilies over the years , with such wandering achiever that I mislay track . This one pop up out of “ nowhere ” ; its wide grey light-green parting were hidden by spiderworts on their elbow room to summer holiday . It ’s fragrant , with 2.5″ efflorescence .
Native White Avens ( Geum canadense ) is start to go to seed after blooming for several weeks .

I hump it for its humiliated growing foliage in shade that gets fit of sun .
My garden is not all aboriginal . My life is not “ one thing ” or another , either . Some days I go for an “ earthy ” kit . Others , I ’m in the temper for tailored or feminine . ( Always , my nails are grubby ) .
As I wander the garden , I remember the people , shoes or botanical discoveries that have influenced me . It ’s a combination of uncivilised and tame , estimation and emotions . experiment and satisfaction . The garden bring out me far more than any diary .

I ’ll always remember the gardener who turned me onto my nativePenstemon cobaea .
And after slaver over Heartleaf skullcap ( Scutellaria ovata ) in several garden , I just had to give it a twirl .
It ’s just now starting to flower near the pinkish skullcap ( Scutellaria suffrutesscens ) , native to Mexico , but perfectly happy in east Austin .

One influence on my garden comes through garden tours , like theLady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Gardens on Tour . This week on CTG , Tom meets with LBJWC Director of Horticulture , Andrea DeLong - Amaya , to preview this year’sMay 7 tour . They ’ve got a diverse line of work - up to vellicate your garden aesthetical , ideas on your project list , or tips for solutions . It ’s also a blast just to cling out with other gardeners and barter notes ! And this year , it ’s a large chance to see what made it through drouth and extended freeze .
Our telecasting go is to one of the garden designed byGlee Ingram , where she started by removing incursive flora on a ski - gradient site , and then reinstate the aboriginal habitat to convey back divers wildlife .
Of naturally , your ticket for the day includes the Wildflower Center itself . you could get wristbands at each site , purchase in betterment at various nurseries , or buy online .

This week , Daphne resolve Lori Linder ’s great questionabout herCereus peruvianusthat had a piffling “ accident ” going outside after wintertime . Been there , done that !
Anyway , Lori ’s got two plants now ! All she needs to do is let the broken part dry out and replant it . Some of us call this “ pruning ! ”
give thanks Lori and her husband Tony for the super debauched re - build of CTG ’s set and its mythologic update , include great new flora stands / coffee tables made from the sometime set . Lori & Tony are superb set designers and furniture constructor all over the shoes , not just for television and films , but for veridical situations , who jump in to serve out CTG at the last minute when we moved from one studio to another .

Right this minute , I’m getting so many interrogation about fire ants and grub worm . Chinch microbe are make out up soon . So , this week , John Dromgoole has a few constitutive tipsto send these pests on their way .
Heads up for an case this Sunday , May 1!The alinement of Austin Community Gardens and Sustainable Food Center invites you to theAustin Community Garden tour to chaffer public spaces around townand get tips on growing your own veggie .
Until next week , Linda
