Like so many of us , MidAR is an experienced and consecrate gardener . As she says , “ I bonk cooking ! We take off garden here 15 age ago with a couple of raised beds and kept enlarging the garden , which now lie in of 14 enkindle bed enclosed with fence to keep the cervid and bunny from devouring the plants . Herbs include rosemary , Petroselinum crispum , cilantro , oregano , sage , basil , chives and thyme . Our favorite crop are tomatoes and jalapeno peppers . We also grow lady’s-finger , onion , cucumbers , courgette and yellow squash vine , green dome , sugar snap peas , turnip Green , dinero and spinach plant every year . We also have some blackberries . ”

Where did tomatoes fare best?Not everyone who responded posted their placement , but from those who did , you may see what kind of season it was . Tomato growers in New England rebounded from a blight - ridden , cold and wet   2009 in a openhanded fashion , as hot , dry weather made for idealistic tomato plant - rise conditions . On the West Coast , where cool conditions predominate ,   grower were not so blessed . In the Midwest , the weather was hot and wet , with mixed results for growers . In the Southeast , red-hot , dry weather brought decidedly sundry results .

Which tomato variety were star performers?Among modest multifariousness , Sweet 100 , Sun Gold , and Juliet get high marks . Among the larger varieties , Carmello , Better Boy , and Celebrity performed well for most growers . Taste , of course , is a personal thing , and what pleases one soul may not invoke to another .

The undecomposed love apple for next year ’s garden?So many varieties , so slight space . With closelipped to 800 types to choose from , a gardener has some difficult decisions to make . I generally go with about   3/4 essay and rightful and practice the rest of the space to try out   miscellany that take in   my eye in the source catalog .
